Matthew Futter is good at a lot of things, but not at describing himself, which is why he asked his wife to help illuminate his finer attributes. He has been a personal assistant, a technical writer, a shipping line supervisor, a sometime photographer, a hiker who knows how old his knees are, and an amateur birder. While working in a bookstore years ago, he was excellent at steaming milk but never made a great cappuccino. These days, he enjoys learning about new technology, discovering new medical advances and psychological insights, and losing at Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit to his articulate, knowledgeable wife. She graciously took time out of always being right to help him find his voice.
The heron above was sitting comfortably in the middle of the creek, safely away from most humans, at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Georgia. This admiring shot was taken from the east bank with a 200mm telephoto lens at maximum zoom.
